We made it to breaky at 7amat our Milan Hotel and to the train for an 8.20am departure to give us a full day on Lake Como.We arrived in Varenna and had a quick walk around then we bought a day pass on the ferry and used it to crisscross the lake, first to Menaggio(photo) and walked through some craft markets then went to Bellagio which has the reputation of being the prettiest village in Italy with very cute alleys(photo) We found a cafe with wifi so we stopped for lunch and skyped home.We had pizzocheri which is a local dish that Jim and I had at Bianzone and it is very nice ,a pasta dish with potato and cabbage, and yet you don't taste the potato or cabbage.. Then onto Lenno where we walked around to Villa Balbianello where padme and anachin got married (Star Wars)and also it is in Casino Royale. It had an awesome garden .( photo). On the boat to Tremezzo they didnt accept our day pass then we figured out Lynd had tried to board the boat with our villa balbianello tickets and we realised her mistake (dang you Parco tickets!!!!). We didnt twig as the boat was a paddlesteamer and we figured it was a special boat and you needed a different ticket
At Tremezzo we walked to Villa Carlotta and onto Cabinabia where we caught a ferry back to Bellagio and then back to Varenna for the train home. A wonderful 12 hour day on the lake and home in time for cheese, fig jam and dates, and to repack our bags in readiness for our flight home tomorrow.
