Ephesus

Today my calf muscles are reminding me that we walked down 600 steps yesterday. After breakfast we had booked a ships tour. The bus took us to Ephesus and we walked through the ancient ruins including a visit to the terrace houses guided by an archeologist. These terrace houses are like the beverley hills of Ephesus where the rich people lived with beautiful mosaic floors, painted frescos on the walls not to mention running water and toilets. They are still unearhing the site and it should be even more amazing in a few years time. The site of Ephesus is large but even so, they estimate they have only excavated 15% so far. It was quite amazing to walk through the streets that Paul and John and Jesus mother would have walked 2000 years ago, with reconstructed houses and pillars etc beside you. At one point, the guide stopped to show us some grafitti as he called it that would be interesting to christians. He went on to explain the symbol with the letters represented a christian code used in biblical times to identify each other. I recognised the Greek symbols which stand for Jesus Christ, God's son, saviour, but had never seen the symbol of a circlce divided into 8 sectors which includes the greek letters (IXOYE). We saw a roman reenactment while at the ruins

At the end of our tour we saw a carpet demonstration.
We bought some turkish delight and headed back to the ship. We had a late lunch and saw a vegetable carving demonstation by one of the cooks then came back to watch a movie."Morning Glory""
dinner and night show was again excellant. The show was a dance/ comedy/singing show.
