Villefranche-Sur-Mer & St Jean Cap Ferrat
We caught the bus to Villefranche-sur-mer stopping to change buses at the old port of Nice which we walked around . A small market was at Villafranche where we saw them making the local dish, socce, so we had some - a sort of savoury pancake made with chick pea flour cooked in a pizza oven . We walked down to the citadel (photo) , an old fort that housed a sculpture exhibition but the most interesting bit was all the ceramics that they had recovered from the ocean beds nearby from past centuries showing how rich the area was. We then walked through the old town and bought a fruit tart. The place is a bit like Portovenere with coloured houses (photo) but there was an old 'street obscure' which was interesting.(photo)
We then caught the bus to St Jean Cap Ferrat not far down the road . At St Jean we did the 30 min walk around the rugged coastline passing a lovely little bay(photo) where people were snorkling. The coastline was quite remote and we figured the locals put the walking path in to get the tourists out of their town for a bit. Our walk ended at a swimming beach but we went back to the original bay and for a swim. The weather is pleasant with a nice breeze. We caught the bus home and had a late lunch .
